Sri
Sri Ayurveda
Springtime greetings from the
Sri Sri Ayurveda
team at our newly named Centre, Sri Sri Ayurveda Institute for
Education and Wellness. Our focus is to build an Ayurvedic college of
learning, to spread this precious knowledge to communities and to offer
treatments which provide dedicated care for the individual.
This year brings great progress for us and we plan to offer you
innovative programs with their promise to give tools to support your
health in all its facets.
Blossoming in Togetherness
We are delighted that fruitful meetings for international standards for
Sri Sri Ayurveda have progressed with our counterparts in Germany and
India. Recently Susan Kamp and her Sri Sri Ayurveda team at Bad
Antogast in Germany welcomed Ann and Heather to share all aspects of
Sri Sri Ayurveda’s profile to the world. The exchange was invigorating
and very rewarding for all of us and we appreciated the support and
strength such communication brings. We affirmed our commitment for high
standards of client care, started to integrate our techniques, and to
look at ways we can support each other in promoting Sri Sri Ayurveda..

Spring
- the perfect time to cleanse
by Vaidya Nitin Shah
Spring
is my most favorite season and it is always a time to freshen up by
cleaning everything including our home and the home for our soul- our
mind and body. Ayurveda, the ancient system of healing, teaches us,
that to stay well and healthy, it is necessary to be in harmony with
nature. As nature moves out of the cold, dark winter toward spring,
everything starts to warm up and blossom. The transition happens slowly
as the ice starts to melt and converts into water and mud. The same
natural chemistry also happens to our body and mind. Our physiology is
governed by 3 subtle bio-energies known as the Doshas - Vata, Pitta and
Kapha. Of the three doshas it is Kapha that endows our body with its
earthy, watery qualities. To enjoy a healthy spring, we need to
understand the qualities of Kapha and bring them back into balance.
When Kapha is naturally aggravated at this time of the year, it
produces coughs and colds because of more heaviness and mucus in the
system.
When Kapha is in balance, we feel strong, composed, and stable. When it
is out of balance, we might feel sleepy, mentally dull, or depressed
and also experience allergies, phlegm in the lungs or sinuses, nausea,
unhealthy weight gain, water retention, or heaviness overall.
Your Ayurvedic prescription for spring is to develop a rhythm and
routine which helps you gradually lighten up physically, mentally, and
emotionally without disturbing the stable virtues of Kapha.
The best approach, at this time of the year, can be multidimensional.
By taking care of the three cornerstones of well being we encourage
efficient detoxification: eating lighter foods, adding warming herbs
and spices to your diet and regular physical activities to increase the
flow of energy within the subtle channels. Great exercises for Spring
are practicing asanas which bring warmth ( Sun salutations are
especially good at this time of the year), pranayama (breathing
techniques) particularly more breath of fire, and meditation. Taking
care of the sinuses by using a neti pot (if you are familiar with it)
and it is also a good idea to apply a little warm oil in the nostrils.
Enjoy a cup of warm ginger tea with the addition of a little honey to
help the flow of excess Kapha away from the body.
Please note that here at the Ashram Sri Sri Ayurveda will be offering a
residential Spring Wellness Retreat 14-22nd May.

Meet
one of our team members Yvonne Macor
Our
team comes from many diverse backgrounds. Yvonne is no
exception, her career started in city planning.
She
joined our second technician-training course in 2001 and became more
and more involved joining the team as a full time member in 2003. Her
office capabilities and her ability to switch to the technician role
made her a valuable member. During that time Yvonne became a Sri Sri
Cookery and Sri Sri Yoga teacher - a busy lady!
When Guruji asked
her in 2006 to "move to a city and start a centre" we reluctantly
agreed. After a year back in Toronto, Yvonne surprised us by
heading for Nova Scotia (where she first met Guruji). Yvonne says
interest in Ayurveda in the Maritimes is remarkably strong. Besides
giving treatments and cookery courses, she teaches the basics of
Ayurveda to yoga teacher training programs and cooks Ayurvedic meals
for yoga retreats.
Ideas for starting a ‘Centre’ are still
percolating in her creative Vata-Pitta mind, and the shape it will take
is still to be revealed-lets check back next year!
